'THE PRESENT HAS NO DIMENSION IN TIME' (Oil on Canvas -790 x 490mm) When we think of the present we see a period of time we have direct access to through our field of consciousness. It is as if a spotlight was shining on an area, once the spotlight moves however, what was in light is now in darkness, that is, in the past. What we will shine the light on next is in the future. Perceptually though, we cannot define the Past, Present and Future in these terms. We may perceive an event with our senses but once the external stimulus has crossed the threshold of perception it becomes memory. We can therefore say that the present is but a threshold between the past and future. It follows that consciousness includes an amount of anticipation or prediction of the future and an amount of memory of the past. In the language of psychology we can say that at the threshold is the perceiving subject, that is the ego, and the darkness behind beginning with memory, is the unconscious, the light in front, consciousness. Note At the time this image was painted my knowledge and perception of the psyche was linear. Since that time it has become apparent that the psyche is circular or spherical in nature. Indeed, the darkness before one's birth is the same darkness after one's death, the difference being that a person has been conscious of existing at death..... SOLD
'DEATH AND MEMORY' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 610mm) The mystery of what lies beyond physical death is ultimately unknowable without actually experiencing it. We can however gain more awareness of the possibilities by exploring the darkness we can know. It is a fact that death has a psychological component that can be experienced in one's own lifetime. It is akin to physical death because one must give the control of one's personality to another force. It is indeed a journey beyond our everyday experience and beyond the signposts of our western religion. The spirit of consciousness enables us to see what is in the darkness. SOLD
'SHADOW PLAY' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 610mm) The first step in any psychological work is the recognition of one's own past. This is achieved through memory in the first instance and a linking back to the child everyone was. The inner child has both positive and negative aspects as most children do. Recognition and discrimination by the adult consciousness shows the divine aspects of creativity, playfulness, softness and love from the negative and infantile aspects of selfishness, greed, jealousy etc. It is the discriminating and ordering principle of consciousness that gives new light to the child and opens the creative potential of the individual. SOLD
'THE DANCE OF THE MAENARDS' ( Oil on Canvas -455 x 610mm) With any deep and enduring inner work one inevitably comes to the transformation of one's feminine component. She is wild in the beginning but with the help and awareness of consciousness, that aspect of a man can be integrated and spiritualised. Nothing can be transformed when it is unconscious. Bringing the feminine aspect personality into life however, gives one the opportunity to transform her through fire into a more controllable and useful form. SOLD
'FINDING THE UNDERGROUND MAN' (Computer Generated) In the darkest recesses of the earth is where the Wise Old Man dwells. He has hidden eternal wisdom that cannot be affected by external ideas or events as long as he remains in the earth.
'FINDING THE WAY OUT ' (Oil on Canvas 450 x 450mm) This is the stage of new life, a new dawn, and the potential for a new way of seeing. SOLD
'MAN AND NATURE' -Oil on Canvas. SOLD
'NATURE'S WAY'Oil on Canvas -455 x 455mm The sacrifice of the body and its natural functions is a central motif in the strengthening of the spirit and a necessary one. Separation from the instincts does indeed strengthen the higher faculties of reason, insight, understanding and knowledge. It is the reason our western culture has achieved such heights in science and technology. The danger is however, of creating a wedge between our natural instincts and our spirit. Too one sided an attitude leads to symptoms of discord in the psyche. Too much spirit leads to a sick animal, too much animal leads to a sick spirit. For a man the feminine is his link back to his origins. AU$4,000
'SOPHIA' (Oil on Canvas -1200 x 800mm) Goddess of Wisdom and spiritual guide. An inner figure of immense importance who is the personification of the deeper layers of the unconscious. She illuminates situations with her insight and wisdom, mediates between the unconscious and the physical world. Her relation to the inner figure of the God image is that of mother. AU$10,000
'MODERN ART' (Oil on Canvas -900 x 1600mm) For thousands of years Fine Art was depicted in terms of realism. Abstraction was in the form of ideas or myths contained within this concrete depiction. Nowadays abstract ideas lead an existence divorced from the concrete and are depicted in such terms. Modern art has become too personal and non relational. Painterly abstraction culminated in the Abstract Expressionist movement where the unconscious is depicted as the pure matrix of consciousness. The things that would make it whole are the contents of the unconscious and the ideas attached to them. To paint an un-personified container of the psyche is to ignore the important contents that give meaning to consciousness. The loss of conscious control in modern art can be seen as a retreat from the concrete sensual world to the chaos and instinctuality of nature. Quite understandable in a culture separated from its natural foundations. AU$10,000
'WORLD SOUL' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 455mm) Humanity has ventured beyond the boundaries of our atmosphere and landed on the moon. They found a barren and stony desert landscape devoid of life. The mythological aspect of the moon however, has not changed. Contemporary spirituality has now more than ever regarded the moon as a feminine numen with a light and dark side. The speculation that Australia will figure highly in humanity's spiritual future can be gauged by the current world interest in this great and Dreamtime continent. AU$2,000
'LIFE, DEATH AND THE ETERNAL SPIRIT' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 455mm) A well known Australian sculpture has two matches as a nihilistic couple. The third element of function however, can unite the couple and hint at an existence beyond the temporal. Does life indeed cease to exist beyond the physical? The evidence of an other form of existence is slowly becoming apparent, proof tends to be on a personal level and difficult to reproduce or verify. It lies with in the realm of revelation and experience. What seems meaningful for some is merely random arrangement for others. AU$1,000
'BUSINESS OR WAR' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 455mm) The psychologists sometimes say that war is nature's way of dealing with the population problem. There are however, financial incentives and motives that encourage conflict. We could be conscious of these motives but human nature as it is, some of us prefer to bury our head's in the sand like small children. AU$1,000
'SLIGHT UNDERSTANDING' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 455mm) AU$1,000
'FIRE AND WATER' (Oil on Canvas -455 x 455mm) Using the language of Platonic Cosmology, Fire and Water are incompatible in there pure form. When a third element is used as an intermedary, such as matter (earth), the union is made easier. AU$1,000
'THE FOURTH FUNCTION' (Oil on Canvas 300 x 300mm) When a Christian makes a sign of the cross he touches four places on his or her body but only says three names. God the father/thinking/air, Jesus the son/feeling/water and the holy ghost/intuition/fire. The missing element is the body/sensation/earth which has accumulated the darkness of not being included. For every light and ephemeral thing , there is an equal and opposite earthly thing of a dark nature. It is matter, the earth mother and Lucifer the bringer of light. The upper trinity is balanced by the lower trinity to make finally the quaternity of wholeness, and that is the union of our male and female nature, our spirit with primitive instinctuality. AU$1,000

'SPIRIT TO EARTH I' (Oil on Canvas 455 x 800mm) Enlightenment can come from outside but the hard work can be done in one's room. The adventure of a lifetime lies no further than one's own own mind. It is not a popular practice to look at your own dreams, fantasies, visions etc because it is contrary to our outer world progress. Mass movements of the destructive kind can be avoided if enough people took stock of their own destructive urges. We are the only species on earth that can take account of our own functioning yet it is seldom, if at all, regarded as having any value for humanity in general. Consciousness seems to be a newly acquired faculty and is quite fragile and prone to dissolution at any time. Without consciousness there is no civilisation, only animal instinctuality with all its creative and destructive urges mixed together. Consciousness is the only faculty that can sort the wheat from the chaff and reject the impulse to destroy. AU$2,000
'SPIRIT TO EARTH II' (Oil on Canvas 455 x 800mm) The natural world is surrounded by celestial objects that convey and embody, and have always embodied, deep meaning to those who are open to seeing it. Sun, moon, planets etc all have a timeless eternal quality in the course of a human life. They are totally reliable and one can literally set ones watch to them. When these celestial bodies are depotentiated and neglected for their symbolic content, the unconscious compensates this attitude by sending messengers from their distant shores to help us once again connect with the wonderful mystery we call life. The physical existence of celestial messengers is unverified, the psychological existence unmistakable. AU$2,000

'ORIGINS OF ABSTRACTION' (Oil on Canvas 760 x 560mm) The advent of Photography led artists to explore ideas abstracted from visual reality. It is the idea however, that binds all of reality together, whether it is depicted in realistic or obscured ways, it has the same origin. AU$3,000
'MORAL RELATIVITY' (Oil on Canvas 600 x 500mm) In this time of conflict and differing points of view, it is important to recognise all views. For what is wrong for us, is right for someone else. POA
'LIBERATION' (Oil on Canvas 300 x 300mm) The liberation or extraction of idea from matter is a life long task. In Christian terms it is becoming conscious of the holy spirit. In psychological terms, discrimination of one from the other gives a new relationship to everyday objects, people and events. When something happens, 'Why' is the important question. POA
'Plato's Cosmology' (Oil on Canvas 600 x 500mm) The basis of the Cosmology is that existence is made up of four elements. These are Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Theses differing elements interact with each other in quite specific ways. For example fire needs air and earth to work, whereas water comes from air and earth is eroded by water. The correlation between Plato's ideas and contemporary psychology is unmistakeable. POA
